The Mabi Rainforest on the block’s waterfront is home to Tree Kangaroos, Echidnas and many species of wallabies and small wallaby marsupial rats and a varied array of birdlife.

If fishing is your passion you can fish 365 days a year for the famed fighting Barramundi (catch me if you can) and fill your cooking pots with Redclaw freshwater lobster.

The adjacent larger towns of Atherton and Malanda have excellent High Schools with high performance levels in both academic and rural subjects. There are TAFE colleges at both Mareeba and Atherton. Mareeba and Tolga boast country race clubs and Atherton and Malanda have active Performing Arts groups and of course , every sport that can be played, is.

In latter years B & B’s have blossomed all over the Tablelands because it is a popular and relaxed holiday destination. Attractions include many rainforest waterfalls and lakes with easy access to historic mining towns of Chillagoe and Kingsborough and thermal springs at Innot Hot Springs.
